    Teachers may assign work for students to complete and submit. All assignments/responses that are submitted and receive a grade will be included in Student Performance.  This can include but is not limited to, student reflections/responses, Thematic Essays, Enduring Issue Essays, research papers, drawings, video presentations, Castle Learning assignments or other multiple-choice assignments, etc.

    Formative Assessments measure student comprehension in the process of learning a skill or acquiring new knowledge (What has the student learned so far?). These assessments serve as a “gauge” so students know where they need improvement. Some examples included but are not limited to:

    • Quiz
    • Writing sample/journaling/response logs
    • Graphic Organizer
    • Reflecting
    • Castle Learning assignment (multiple choice)
    • Observation based (ex- speaking during a World Language class)
    • Oral presentation
    • Extended responses

    Summative Assessments are used to measure student learning/progress at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against course standards/ benchmarks. (What did the student learn overall?). Some examples included but are not limited to:

    • Cumulative work over an extended period of time
      • Projects
      • Essay
      • End-of-unit or chapter test
      • End of quarter assessment

    Student Participation, Remote and In-Person Engagement, Reliability, and Completion (30%)

    The bullets below will be used across all content areas.  However, each department may customize by adding additional bullets in each area to included items that are “specific” to the department.

    Description

    100-90
    • Student regularly attends in-person or remote instruction (logs in to Schoology for live streaming) all, if not most, of the required days for the course.
    • Student submits all assignments conscientiously and on time.
    • Student consistently communicates with his/her teacher with questions and/or concerns regarding assignments.
    • Student proactively contributes/participates in classroom discussions during synchronous instruction or any other software that is being used for the course (when applicable) by offering ideas, asking questions and/or responding to posts.

    89-80
    • Student attends in-person or remote instruction (logs in to Schoology for live streaming) for the course consistently for the required days.
    • Student attempts to submit all assignments, but some assignments are late and/or partially completed.
    • Student occasionally communicates with his/her teacher with questions and/or concerns regarding assignments.
    • Student occasionally contributes/participates in classroom discussions during synchronous instruction or any other software that is being used for the course (when applicable) by offering ideas, asking questions and/or responding to posts.

    79-70
    • Student attends in-person or remote instruction (logs in to Schoology for live streaming) for the course inconsistently for the required days.
    • Student occasionally skips assignments and submits assignments late and/or partially completed.
    • Student occasionally communicates with his/her teacher with questions and/or concerns regarding assignments.
    • Student occasionally participates in classroom discussions during synchronous instruction or any other software that is being used for the course (when applicable) by offering ideas, asking questions and/or responding to posts.

    69-55
    • Student does not or rarely attends in-person or remote instruction (logs in to Schoology for live streaming) for the course for the required days for the course.
    • Student sporadically submits assignments and submits assignments that are partially complete.
    • Student does not communicate with his/her teacher to explain the reasons for his/her inability to complete assignments.
    • Student never participates in classroom discussions during synchronous instruction or any other software that is being used for the course (when applicable).
